How Founders Can Avoid Rework During MVP Development

Rework is one of the easiest ways for an MVP project to become more expensive and take longer than expected. A feature may need to be redesigned, rebuilt, or tested again because an important requirement was unclear when development started.

For an early-stage startup, this can be particularly difficult. The team usually has limited resources, and time spent rebuilding existing functionality is time that could have been used to test the product with customers.

Most rework cannot be eliminated completely. However, founders can reduce avoidable rework by making important product decisions early and creating clearer communication between business and technical teams.
